Hollywood’s Super Bowl, the revered Academy Awards, is no stranger to shocking betrayals that leave both stars and fans stunned. From legends being snubbed for their most iconic roles to fan-favorite performances being thrown in the bin, the glitz and glamour of the Oscars often turn dark for many bright stars.

Alfred Hitchcock

Can you imagine that Alfred Hitchcock, the genius behind haunting classics like “North by Northwest” and “Psycho,” has never won an Oscar? Despite his work being nominated five times in the Best Film category, the legendary director had to face defeat after defeat. No one can understand how the Academy can ignore such a talent who completely transformed the modern horror genre. Hitchcock’s name will definitely go down in cinema history, even if it receives no recognition at the Oscars.

Glenn Close

Glenn Close’s constant Oscar losses are like a disappointing annual ritual. A record-breaking eight snubs for Hollywood’s shiniest gem? Ridiculous! With masterpieces such as Fatal Attraction and Hillbilly Elegy, the actress should be drowning in golden statues! But sadly, it continues to evade her grasp.

Mia Farrow

Five Golden Globe Nominations but not a single one for the Oscars? It’s baffling for everyone! But it gets worse – the fantastic actress has starred in seven different Woody Allen films, which brought him all the nominations, but never her! Can you believe that? The Academy needs to watch movies more closely.

Barbra Streisand

Barbra Streisand, a trailblazer in the industry, sadly became victim to the rampant misogyny in Hollywood, a fate most female creators have to face. Despite blowing everyone’s minds in her directorial masterpiece “The Prince of Tides” and earning many nominations, her talent was shockingly ignored during the 1992 Oscars.

John Hughes

If there’s anyone the Academy robbed, it’s John Hughes, actor/writer extraordinaire. Can you imagine not awarding the man who wrote, produced, and directed The Breakfast Club and gave the world the gift of Home Alone? I can’t! But that’s precisely what happened. The Academy never paid attention to his endless contributions to Hollywood. The man never even got nominated! Hughes finally received a special tribute after his unexpected death in 2010, but it was a little too late.

Edward Norton

Edward Norton has been nominated three times but has never gotten to take the golden statue home, despite doing excellent work in films like The 25th Hour and Fight Club. But this guy has a reputation for rewriting scripts, avoiding promotions, and being generally difficult. That’s a big no-no in Hollywood, and that’s why he might’ve lost out on an Oscar and a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Stanley Kubrick

Do you know what iconic films like The Shining, Dr. Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Spartacus have in common? Stanley Kubrick is in the director’s chair! The powerhouse director came out with gem after gem and was nominated four times for Best Director. But sadly, no wins, which is honestly a theft. He did win a special effects Oscar for 2001: A Space Odyssey, but that’s not even close to the recognition he deserves!

Cary Grant

When you think about charming British actors, there’s one name on top of that list: Cary Grant. Although his career is packed to the brim with masterpieces, he has only ever received two Oscar nominations. And if that wasn’t unfair enough, he never won! Regardless of this, though, his timeless roles in films like “The Philadelphia Story” have stood the test of time and still make the world swoon.

Carole Lombard

Carole Lombard was an iconic comedic actress who deserved to win an Oscar. Unfortunately, the Academy overlooked her talent, and she only received one nomination for her exceptional performance in “My Man Godfrey.”

Amy Adams

With six nominations and no wins, Amy Adams, the fiery-haired actress, remains empty-handed despite her consistently stellar performances. Even her standout role in “Arrival” failed to secure her the coveted golden statue.

Peter O’Toole

Peter O’Toole missed out on an Oscar not just once or twice but a whopping eight times! Even a ‘thanks for showing up’ honorary award in 2003 couldn’t compensate for all those snubs. It’s like the Academy had their eyes closed when he was around! Even his stunning portrayal of King Henry II couldn’t sway the Academy’s favor, leaving O’Toole in a bittersweet embrace with an honorary award, though he yearned for the genuine victory.

Judy Garland

You won’t believe this! The iconic Judy Garland, the soul of classic hits like “A Star Is Born” and “Meet Me in St. Louis,” got just two nods and a pat-on-the-back juvenile award in 1940! Can you say snub of the century? Fast forward to 2020, and Renée Zellweger swoops in with an Oscar for playing Garland in Judy! Oh, the irony!

Spike Lee

Spike Lee, the game-changer, has been treated horribly by the Academy. Only one Best Director nomination in his whole career? Now, that’s an insult. And can we talk about the Best Picture in 1990? Do the Right Thing left out for a cozy little flick? Talk about missing the whole point! Sure, he got an honorary Oscar, but it’s like tapping a band-aid on a bullet wound.

Cicely Tyson

Did Cicely Tyson, the trailblazer, have to wait until 2018 for an honorary Oscar? Seriously? With just one measly nomination for her influential role in Sounder, it’s like the Academy had a blindfold on for decades! Her contributions span generations, yet the Academy’s delayed recognition feels like an afterthought. Better late than never? Maybe not.

Paul Thomas Anderson

Paul Thomas Anderson, the maestro behind “There Will Be Blood,” earned eight impressive nominations without a win. How did his epic screenplay for “Inherent Vice” lose to “The Imitation Game”? The Academy’s idea of great cinema seeds an update.

Johnny Depp

Is there an actor who can shape-shift? Yes, and his name is Johnny Depp! There is no one in Hollywood with a more diverse range of performances! Although nobody can deny the man’s insane acting talent, the Academy has never awarded it despite three nominations for his performances in “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” “Finding Neverland,” and “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.”
